How Much CBD Do I Take?

It's My First Time Taking CBD, How Much Do I Take?

When it comes to measuring out your perfect dose of CBD, there are 3 things to know…

Common questions we hear among CBD beginners: Can I overdose on CBD? Will CBD get me high? What happens if I take too much?

When it comes to measuring out your perfect dose of CBD, there are really only 3 things you need to know to find that blissful sweet spot…

1. Start Low and Go Slow

As with anything in life, good things take time.

And because CBD is a (really) good thing, it will take time and experimentation to know how many milligrams you need in order to feel the most benefit.

That’s why we love the motto, “Start low and go slow.”

Because everyone’s different—differing in weight, body chemistry, and pain and ailments—everyone will need a different dose.

When it comes to “starting low”, a good rule of thumb is 15 milligrams. This is enough for you to feel the benefits of cannabidiol, while still being able to discern if you need more.

After a week of taking 15 to 30mg, increase the amount by 5mg and take note of how you feel. We recommend keeping a journal during this process so you can remember how many milligrams you took and how you felt both mentally and physically on a scale of 1 to 10.

2. Know the Strength per Serving

There’s a difference between the strengths of CBD products you buy—whether it’s a tincture, softgel capsule, salve, or bath bomb.

To make it simple, we’ve broken it down for you…

These three CBD tinctures look the same, right?

For the most part, yes.

The difference is that each bottle has a different concentration of CBD inside.

The first one (the one farthest to the left), has just 450mg of CBD per bottle, which adds up to 15mg of CBD per serving (i.e. per dropperful).

The second bottle has 900mg of CBD, with a single serving being 30mg of CBD.

And lastly, the third bottle has a whopping 1,350mg of CBD, which equates to 45mg of CBD per dropperful.

So, the next time you go to purchase your CBD, take note of how many milligrams each bottle holds. This will give you a good idea as to how much CBD will be in each dropperful.

If you’re one who functions better with a higher level of milligrams in your system, then the 1,350mg tincture will be a better bang for your buck. Or try our highest strength, 2250mg. However, if you feel like a million bucks with 15mg in your system, then the 450mg tincture will be your new wing woman.

3. Build It Up in Your System

Did you know that your body was literally designed to benefit from CBD?

We all have what’s called an Endocannabinoid System (ECS), and that system is home to your CB1 and CB2 receptors (receptors found in your brain, peripheral nervous system, immune system, etc).

So, when you consume CBD, it prevents endocannabinoids from breaking down, thus putting your body back into balance and making you feel calmer, less anxious, and way more blissful.

For some people, they need to build up CBD in their system before they can start experiencing its health benefits.

We like to think of your first dose of CBD as “jumpstarting” your ECS. Just like how you jumpstart a car when the battery is dead, you jumpstart your ECS with CBD.

So if you don’t feel relief immediately after taking CBD, don’t worry. It can take several weeks (or even months) for some people to feel the benefits of CBD, so patience is key.

What Happens If I Take Too Much CBD?

A 2011 study showed that CBD used in high doses—all the way up to 1,500mg/day—is still well-tolerated by humans.

In a follow-up study done in 2017, this hypothesis was confirmed. However, there is still more research to be done on the long-term effects of CBD.

When it comes to the side effects of CBD, there aren’t many. Some people have experienced fatigue, diarrhea, changes in appetite, and changes in weight.
