CBD and Your Pet: An Effective Treatment?

Let’s be honest. Sometimes we love our pets more than we love our humans. So, why not let our pets benefit from CBD the same way humans do.

How does CBD work for pets?

CBD, a cannabinoid, is a chemical found in the cannabis plant. Humans benefit from CBD because we have something called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which plays a vital role in keeping our bodies healthy. While our bodies make their own cannabinoids, you can also get cannabinoids from plants.

Humans aren’t the only beings with endocannabinoid systems. All mammals have endocannabinoid systems - which is why your pets may benefit from CBD, too.

The research on pets and CBD

It’s becoming very common for people to give CBD to their pets suffering from noise phobias such as thunder or fireworks, separation anxiety, joint pain, seizures, and skin issues. There’s some promising research that suggests CBD might be able to treat certain conditions in dogs. These conditions include:

●    Atopic dermatitis, an allergic skin rash. According to a study conducted in 2012, CBD might soothe atopic dermatitis, an inflammatory skin condition. CBD is an anti-inflammatory.

●    Seizures. A 2017 study on CBD for dogs with seizures showed that CBD oil could reduce the incidence of seizures.

●    Pain. A 2018 study conducted on dogs with osteoarthritis found that CBD oil for dogs reduced their pain levels.

CBD is safe for dogs, according to research. And no, it can’t get you or your pets high, as CBD itself is not intoxicating.

In general, CBD should be studied further before we’re 100 percent clear on how it can treat certain conditions in pets. But for now, many veterinarians find it to be an effective treatment for a range of ailments.

What about CBD for cats?

There has been less research on cats and CBD. One small 2019 study, which looks at the safety of single-dose CBD in both cats and dogs, concludes more research is needed before we’re sure about whether CBD is safe for cats. Most information about CBD for cats is anecdotal. Our customers find the CBD Oil for Pets Drops most favorable to their feline friend.

What you need to know about giving CBD to you pet

Before you give CBD to your dog, it’s a good idea to talk to your veterinarian. They will help you figure out if CBD is a good idea for your pet. A holistic veterinarian will be able to advise you on the correct dosage to use on your pet. With CBD, the dosage is everything, and it’s essential to get it right.

Lastly, monitor your pet once you give them CBD. If they seem to have any adverse reactions, call your vet immediately.

While CBD seems to be beneficial for dogs and cats, be sure to consult a professional before using CBD for your pets.

Where can you buy CBD for pets?

CBD for pets can be found in most local pet food stores or your local CBD store. By doing a search online for "Where can you buy CBD for pets" will offer results of retailers carrying CBD Pet products. You should opt for a high-quality pet CBD brand, like Thryv Organics, and trust the company you are buying from.

You need to look for products that are “third-party tested,” meaning that an independent lab confirmed the makeup of the products. You should also be able to access the report on the company’s website, or you might be able to request it via email.

Unfortunately, many less-than-reputable companies sell low-quality CBD products, so do your research and let us know if you have any questions. You can contact us here.
